It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.At its core NPY Women's Council is about family and community – walytja. Our purpose is to work with women, children and their families of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara region in central Australia. Our role is to work side by side and help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.ABOUT THE TEAMTjanpi Desert Weavers (Tjanpi) was initiated by NPY Women's Council in 1995 in response to an expressed need by Anangu women for meaningful and culturally appropriate employment.Since 1995, Tjanpi (meaning 'dry grass') has evolved into a vital and dynamic Indigenous social enterprise of NPY Women's Council and enables women on the lands to earn a regular income from selling their fibre art. More than 400 Aboriginal women artists across 350,000 square kilometres of the Central and Western Desert region of Australia come together on country to create beautiful, intricate and whimsical fibre art.The Tjanpi team is made up of 12 staff who support this social enterprise within Alice Springs and in the communities.ABOUT THE ROLEThe Creative Development Officer is responsible for the creative development of fibre artists in the NPY lands to ensure fibre work is created for both the retail economy and the contemporary arts market and an innovative, evolving fibre arts practice maintains our position in the Australia contemporary arts landscape.ABOUT YOUYou will have experience in community enterprise development; preferably, you will have an arts and or Indigenous focus. Ideally, you will have previous experience working in a cross-cultural environment and are able to demonstrate a commitment to the empowerment of Aboriginal women on the lands through the facilitation of artistic, cultural and economic development.This is your opportunity to make a real impact alongside a dedicated, skilled and supportive group of people. The organisation is committed to working within the NPY lands for the benefit of Anangu people in the region and you will work in an environment and landscape unique to Australia.In addition to this, we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, additional superannuation, salary packaging benefits, 5 weeks of annual leave, 15 days of personal leave (to care for you and your family) and a retention bonus.
