Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the role of Control Room Operator. This is a full-time position based in Canberra, Australia, reporting directly to the Control Room Manager.
Primary Responsibilities Remotely monitor renewable energy assets from the Control Center (APREC), ensuring compliance with AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) regulations, National Electricity Rules, safety protocols, and optimal performance. Monitor equipment, substations, incidents, trips, and warnings, promptly responding to minimize operational disruptions. Actively follow up on required actions to resolve warnings, unavailabilities, underperformance, or other deviations with Remote O&M Control Rooms and Site Managers/Supervisors. Ensure assets meet energy targets, Generator Performance Standards, and other operational parameters. Execute remote maneuvers as instructed by the Market Operator (AEMO). Analyze data from SCADA systems and adjust power plant controls per regulations and operating plans. Communicate with Regional Managers and Site Managers to coordinate work and report serious incidents. Liaise with the Market Operator (AEMO) and Transmission Network Service Providers as per Operating Protocols. Record and report operational incidents. Implement Emergency Response Plans for assets. Manage supplier relationships, ensuring contractual obligations are met. Execute daily reporting activities and performance analysis tasks. Maintain Control Room Logbook records. Collaborate in developing procedures related to Control Room activities. Trading Activities Monitor and analyze Energy markets to optimize positioning. Complete short, medium, and real-time availability bidding. Monitor auto-bidders, executing manual corrections as needed. Actively bid assets in Energy Markets when required. Execute short-term trading strategies. Collaborate with operators and traders on market-related initiatives. Ensure compliance with corporate and industry requirements. Qualifications and Experience Vocational Educational Training (VET) or an Associate Degree, preferably in Electrical, Renewable, or IT. Training related to renewable technology, SCADA systems, and market activities. 2 years of experience in control and monitoring roles. Basic knowledge of generation plant operations (preferably renewable), Australian energy market, data analysis, and Excel. Excellent communication skills. Professional integrity, liaison capacity, active listening, self-awareness, efficient decision-making, and flexibility.
