The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is seeking high calibre criminal law experts to fill two Senior Executive vacancies as Consultant Crown Prosecutors on five (5) year contracts.
Consultant Crown Prosecutors are criminal law experts, primarily responsible for conducting highly complex criminal trials and appeals, providing high level advice to the Director Public Prosecutions, and providing professional mentoring to other Crown Prosecutors.
As a Consultant Crown Prosecutor, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Contributing to whole-of-ODPP initiatives to improve the professional capability of staff systems and work practices. Appearing as leading counsel in highly complex superior court criminal trials and appeals. Exercising without supervision, the discretion to initiate, vary and discontinue serious criminal charges. Providing high level advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions on legal and policy matters affecting the ODPP. Providing professional mentoring to other Crown Prosecutors and legal and support staff focusing on performance and improving professional capability. Contributing to the delivery of prosecution services in Queensland's changing criminal justice environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Strategic management expertise, including the ability to develop initiatives, strategies and activities designed to improve the professional capability of staff, systems and work practices. Superior legal acumen demonstrated by extensive experience in appearing as lead counsel in highly complex superior court criminal trials and appeals. Leadership capability including the ability to motivate, coach and mentor staff including Crown Prosecutors and legal and support staff, with a focus on performance improvement and professional capability. High calibre interpersonal communication skills, including an understanding of trauma informed practice and experience in applying trauma informed approaches when liaising with victims of crime. Mandatory qualifications, conditions and requirements:
You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).
