Role details The Specialist Palliative Care Services at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity The Clinical Nurse is an advanced level clinician who is responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise at an advanced nursing practice level for the provision and coordination of evidence-based person-centred care in accordance with organisational goals for a defined clinical area or specialty.
The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse is an experienced nurse with advanced clinical knowledge and an in-depth understanding of Palliative Care, symptom management, and end of life care planning.
The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse employs advanced clinical and professional practice capabilities to deliver a positive patient-centred health experience for individuals and their support persons.
The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse works closely with other members of the Mackay HHS Specialist Palliative Care Service team sharing client load.
About the Team The Mackay HHS Specialist Palliative Care Service aims to improve the quality of life for patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-limiting illness.
This can be achieved through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and treatment of pain and other problems, in the physical, psychological and spiritual domains.
The Specialist Palliative Care Service seeks to: provide holistic patient-centred care for patients with life-limiting illness across the care continuum.
provide specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting illness which are needs-based regardless of diagnosis or prognosis.
address the specialist palliative care needs of patients and their families for the duration of their illness trajectory.
provide multidisciplinary care in a reliable and efficient manner.
The Specialist Palliative Care Service provides palliative care support to inpatients at Mackay HHS, outpatient clinics and a community program to assist patients and carers in their own home within a 45km radius of Mackay.
Specialist palliative care support in the Isaac, Bowen and Whitsunday regions, are provided by the Specialist Palliative Care Rural Telehealth Service (SPaRTa) team based at the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.
A multidisciplinary team working within specialist palliative care provides holistic, co-ordinated care to patients and their carers across the care continuum, with close collaboration with other health professionals.
About Our Hospital And Health Service Mackay Hospital and Health Service has 6 hospitals, 2 multi-purpose health services and 4 community health centres that employ more than 3,700 staff.
The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
