Based at our St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity The Chemical Waste Coordinator is to provide day-to-day oversight of chemical waste processes and to provide high-level chemical advice relating to the chemical waste lifecycle.
This includes undertaking first line generation of waste labels, manifesting waste and packing waste along with advising clients on chemical waste requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
Oversee chemical waste processing including labelling, manifesting and packing waste for transport.
Provide high level advice in relation to chemical waste requests from clients across UQ.
Ensure chemical waste collections are scheduled for various UQ locations and ensure this meets the appropriate transport regulatory requirements (i.e.
ADG code, IMDG).
Oversee chemical waste storage on-site and ensure hazardous area and chemical segregation controls are in place.
Package chemicals for off-site road/rail/sea transport with reference to the ADG code.
Generate transport manifests for transport of chemicals from UQ.
Prepare and maintain emergency plans for chemicals at the Chemstore.
Operate Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) following appropriate training.
Develop Safe Operating Procedures, Risk Assessments and assist with maintaining Hazardous Area Dossiers.
Act as a Chemstore Drugs Officer and Controlled Substances Officer.
Oversee Chemstore operations when required.
This position will work closely with the Chemical Store Coordinator.

About You Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry, with at least four years' experience working with organic chemicals, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Ability to work under broad direction efficiently with a number of stakeholders and undertake complex problem-solving tasks.
Current drivers' license.
Forklift licence or willingness to obtain.
Excellent communication skills.
Chemical Waste Management experience.
Relevant stores experience.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience supervising a team.
IATA and ADG training for shipping Dangerous Goods.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and the ADG code.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, AHPRA registration, mandatory immunisations, first aid and/or CPR certification, blue card check, etc.
