The Client
Backed by significant venture capital funding, our client is a biotech start-up developing innovative technologies poised to transform the industry's approach to quality control and longitudinal monitoring of clinical molecular diagnostics. Key to this strategy is the expansion of their widely published platform which focuses on the use of synthetic DNA and RNA 'spike-in' controls to increase the accuracy, performance, and quality of genomic data.
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a skilled bioinformatician, with a strong background in genomics and analysing NGS data, to join their talented, product-centric life sciences team. Within this role, your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the design and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for analysis of synthetic DNA controls and NGS data sets, including quality control, alignment, variant calling, and annotation.
Collaborating with bench scientists to design experiments that further the development of new and existing products for use in clinical diagnostics.
Performing bioinformatics analysis of data and communicating results and findings with internal team members, as well as external clinical researchers and scientists.
Maintaining accurate written records of all experiments undertaken.
Developing bioinformatics workflows for quality control processes.
Assist in the development of bioinformatics analysis and reporting software.
The Ideal Candidate
Demonstrated experience of analysing data from high-throughput sequencing platforms.
Demonstrated experience and understanding of processing FASTQ files, quality control and variant calling of BAM files.
Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of new bioinformatics workflows.
Proficiency in languages widely used in bioinformatics, for example, Python and/or R.
Good working knowledge of software development practices and source code management tools (e.g., git)
Skilled in the use of the Linux command line.
Demonstrated experience of managing multiple projects as part of a team.
Broad experience preparing reports, presentations, visualisation and communicating bioinformatics analyses to support business decisions.
Proven ability to work across a diverse group of staff within multidisciplinary teams.
