About the Role
The Assistant Accountant is responsible for managing the stewardship duties of the system accounting function for Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS).
This includes (but not limited to) reconciling the bank statements and control accounts, generating and booking journals as required in the General Ledger (GL).
As an Assistant Accountant, your day-to-day will include:
performing all Central Office bank reconciliations monthly for review by Senior Accountant which includes posting relevant journals, follow-up unposted entries with relevant areas and organising intra bank transfersclosing off and reconciling the Central Office AR ledger to subledger each monthrecording term deposits in the system to calculate interest to accrue and reconcile to GL each monthclosing off and reconciling the Central Office AP ledger to subledger each monthupdating and reconciling prepayment and accrual schedule to GL monthly as well as prepare relevant monthly journalsupdating and reconciling the grants in advance to GL monthly as well as prepare relevant monthly journalsperforming ad-hoc tasks as requested by Director - Finance and Property, Chief Financial Officer or School Commercial Manager and other relevant managers with SCS. The successful candidate will also possess the following:
formal qualifications in Business and/or Management or other relevant qualificationCPA qualified or working towards becoming CPA qualified or other equivalentone to two years financial experience in a broad based accounts support roledemonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential informationexperienced in customer service and liaising with a diverse range of stakeholdersproven sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principlesdemonstrated ability to ask for assistance if faced with a problemdemonstrated willingness to learn and demonstrate a high level of initiativedemonstrated high-level analytical and problem solving skillswillingness to respect, support, and uphold the mission, ethos, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of SCS.Application Process
