This role is part of the Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer Branch, which provides financial management, business support, external reporting coordination, and insurance management.
Role: The Asset Accounting Specialist will assist the Manager of Finance Operations and support the Finance team in managing the asset financial accounting and compliance.
Responsibilities: Ensure accurate management and accounting of assets, including capitalisation, disposal, and depreciation.Prepare financial information for the annual report, ensuring compliance with policies and Australian accounting standards.Provide specialist support to management on asset valuation, maintenance, and reconciliation of records.Build strong stakeholder relationships to ensure compliance with accounting standards and government policies.Conduct research and analysis to improve asset management processes and reporting.Coordinate reconciliation of fixed asset registers and capital expenditure reports.Support annual external audits and monitor internal control adherence.Assist in preparing annual and long-term operational and capital budgets.Perform general accounting duties, including budget reviews and balance sheet reconciliations.Deliver professional customer service, responding promptly to organisational needs.About you: Experience maintaining an asset register and managing government project assets, including land accounts and capital works.Experience providing accounting advice on asset matters within the VPS.Comfortable working independently in a small team.Qualification in transport, building, or construction industries.3-5 years in a similar role.Strong grasp of contemporary accounting standards and Victorian Government financial reporting guidelines.Skilled in valuing infrastructure assets, managing inventory changes, and ensuring compliance with policies.Experienced in capitalisation of completed works and cost analysis.Competent in reporting asset losses and fraud, and identifying process improvements.Capable of independent judgment on complex financial issues and providing leadership.Flexible and adaptable to changing deadlines, with a proactive approach.Excellent interpersonal skills for negotiating and resolving complex issues while building stakeholder relationships.Culture: Energetic and social team environment.The Next Step: To apply for this role, it is essential that you have or are willing to obtain a National Police Check.
