It is responsible for the national broadcasters (ABC and SBS), delivering programs to support public interest journalism, community broadcasting and the provision of Australian content to Pacific broadcasters. It also provides policy advice on broadcasting and online gambling regulations, working closely with the Australian Communications and Media Authority.The Platforms & News Branch identifies emerging market policy issues relating to digital platforms, and assesses how the business models of digital platforms impact consumers and businesses. The Branch advises the Government on the delivery of quality public interest journalism to Australian communities and the sustainability of the news publishing sector. It also advises the Government on measures to combat mis- and disinformation, electoral integrity, and foreign interference in the communications, media and online services sectors.A Senior Policy Officer is responsible for:Contributing to policy development and providing expert policy advice.Developing, supporting and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Preparing a range of high-quality written materials, including correspondence, briefs and submissions.Conducting comprehensive research and analysis activities in support of policy development.A merit pool will be established for a period of 18 months from the date of this advertisement as a result of the selection process.Who are we looking for?To be successful, you will need to demonstrate your ability to:Contribute to policy development and provide expert policy advice, or a capacity to apply existing skills or experience to this work.Achieve results and manage work projects effectively with competing priorities and tight deadlines, with a capacity to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, to deliver information in a variety of formats to a range of audiences.Prepare a range of high-quality written materials, including correspondence, briefs and submissions.Develop, support and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Think strategically, evaluating complex information from a variety of sources to make connections and sound decisions.Use strong initiative and sound judgement to achieve good outcomes.Conduct comprehensive research and analysis activities in support of new policy.We are happy to consider people looking for a part time position.The work of the Division deals with subject matter related to serious online harms.
