It is responsible for the national broadcasters (ABC and SBS), delivering programs to support public interest journalism, community broadcasting and the provision of Australian content to Pacific broadcasters. It also provides policy advice on broadcasting and online gambling regulations, working closely with the Australian Communications and Media Authority.The Platforms & News Branch identifies emerging market policy issues relating to digital platforms, and assesses how the business models of digital platforms impact consumers and businesses. The Branch advises the Government on the delivery of quality public interest journalism to Australian communities and the sustainability of the news publishing sector.
