About the role We have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic leader to shape the future of Work Health and Safety (WHS) and risk management within our team. This newly created role will be instrumental in providing structure and direction for WHS across the People and Organisational Development division, as well as the wider Public Transport Centre. As a key player in the organisation, you'll have the chance to design and implement innovative safety programs that will help in significantly reducing incidents, enhance compliance, and build a culture of safety throughout the PTA.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of WHS initiatives, providing expert guidance and strategic leadership to ensure the highest standards of safety are upheld. By driving the development of WHS policies and programs, you'll empower workers with clear expectations and ensure that all safety practices align with regulatory requirements. You'll also serve as a consultant on complex WHS risks and hazards, offering solutions and mitigating risks.
As part of your responsibilities, you'll lead the coordination of WHS programs, monitor compliance with safety legislation, and provide technical advice to project teams. Collaboration will be key as you work with other divisions to ensure consistency and alignment across the PTA. This role also involves improving safety culture by driving behavioural change initiatives, and continually seeking process improvements to embed best practices in safety management.
With your ability to analyse safety data and recommend impactful interventions, you will be a vital force in ensuring continuous improvement in WHS practices, making this a unique opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the safety culture within the PTA.
About You! To excel in this role, you should possess:
A recognised qualification in safety or a related field, or extensive practical experience in the field.Strong knowledge of WA Health and Safety legislation, Rail Safety National Law, and potential future Work Health and Safety requirements.Proven experience in conducting audits, investigations, and working within an operational rail environment.Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan, organise, and prioritise tasks effectively to meet organisational objectives.About Us The Public Transport Authority's (PTA) vision is to be recognised as a leader in providing world-class public transport services and solutions. This is a fixed term appointment until 1 July 2027 with the possibility of extension and/or permanency available for an immediate start. Initially, this selection process will be used to fill the above vacancies; however, it may also be used to appoint to similar positions that arise within the next 12 months.
