About VoCCR! The VOCCR pilot has commenced across three key in-community locations (Cairns, Logan and Townsville), with two new regions due to be set up by October 2024. The Victims of Community Crime Response (VoCCR) service focuses on addressing current gaps faced by victim-survivors needing immediate practical support after experiencing an interpersonal violent crime. Our aim is to provide efficient short-term crisis assistance, such as coordinating emergency transport and accommodation and addressing basic needs, such as food, clothing, home safety upgrades and more, within the first 72 hours of the incident. We also provide warm referrals for long-term support, which may involve legal, health, financial, and housing support.
Position Overview Employment Term: Part-time, fixed term (30/06/2025).Location: WFH and Cairns, QLD.Remuneration: Social Community Home Care Disability Award Level 4 (pay point dependent on qualifications and relevant experience). Superannuation.Shifts: (Mon-Fri) 16:00 - 00:00 & 23:30 - 08:30. (Sat-Sun) 08:00 - 16:30, 16:00 - 00:00 & 23:30 - 08:30.The Cairns (QLD) In-Community Response & Connection Practitioner provides immediate assistance to victims/survivors referred to VoCCR by the QPS (Queensland Police Service) after experiencing an act of interpersonal violence. Response and Connection Practitioners will travel to designated locations within the Cairns, QLD area to offer in-person crisis support and, if required, coordinate essential practical needs such as emergency transport and accommodation, food, clothing, safety enhancements, and other forms of practical assistance.
As a member of the VoCCR Team, the In-Community Response and Connection Practitioner will also deliver immediate trauma-informed support in the form of answering or triaging inbound calls with compassion, providing psychological first aid and emotional support through traditional CBT interventions such as mindfulness and grounding techniques for callers presenting in acute distress, undertaking risk and needs assessments, safety planning and guiding service users through warm referral pathways.
Position Requirements Diploma or tertiary qualification in any Community/Human Services related field accepted by DVConnect.Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in the social and community services sector.Demonstrated experience working with people who have been impacted by violence, and an understanding of a trauma-informed approach is required.Significant demonstrated ability to manage competing tasks within agreed timeframes, including planning, implementation, and coordination of practical support or case management.Significant demonstrated experience navigating sensitive situations calmly and professionally.Confident and effective interpersonal, communication and consultation skills.Theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of intersectional feminist practice and other relevant practice frameworks used to respond to victims of violent crime.Sound knowledge and understanding (or willingness to acquire) of the Queensland Domestic Violence Legislation and Queensland criminal justice legislation, including victim of crime and child protection.Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including both sector and non-sector partners.Demonstrated good cultural responsiveness and commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.Highly competent IT and telephone skills.Paid Blue Card and a satisfactory National Police Check, or willingness to obtain before commencing employment.Right to work in Australia.As this is an after-hours WFH role that also involves travelling within the Cairns, QLD region, applicants must have the following: Reside in Cairns, QLDHave an open driver's licenseOwn a road-worthy, insured vehicleAppropriate home office and strong NBN internet connection (not 4G, 5G or Satellite)What's in it for you?
