The opportunity The SKA Observatory (SKAO) is a next-generation radio astronomy facility that will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe and the laws of fundamental physics.
Enabled by cutting-edge technology, it promises to have a major impact on society, in science and beyond.
In Australia, the SKAO is collaborating with CSIRO to operate and support the construction of the low frequency telescope (SKA-Low) in remote Western Australia on Wajarri Yamaji Country.
The Traditional Owners and native title holders, the Wajarri Yamaji, have gifted CSIRO with the traditional name Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara for the CSIRO Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, home to the SKA-Low telescope.
The traditional name means 'sharing sky and stars' in the Wajarri language.
The Village Liaison Officer will work closely with the SKA-Low Project Manager – Infrastructure Contracts to effectively manage use of the camp, ensure the delivery of high-quality services, and lead the drive for an excellent camp culture, consistent with the highest industry standards.
The role will have interactions with various stakeholders and staff in Geraldton and at the SKA-Low Telescope construction site.
Your duties will include: As the lead for engagement with the camp service provider, ensure camp service levels are maintained at a high standard, including inclusive camp culture initiatives.
Perform regular quality audits and, where required, propose, develop and lead improvement initiatives in areas including safety, recreational facilities, accommodation, transport, and catering.
Address concerns or issues between camp stakeholders (SKAO, CSIRO, the camp service provider, occupants and visitors), understanding the position of each stakeholder and enabling an effective resolution of any issues.
Key contact for all SKAO/CSIRO specific camp event coordination ensuring that events are delivered to a high standard.
Understand and appreciate local Indigenous requirements, ensuring that the camp is an inclusive and welcoming environment for Indigenous staff and contractors.
Location: Geraldton, Western Australia Salary: AU$110,038 - AU$119,080 plus 15.4% superannuation Tenure: 3-year Specified Term – Full-Time, Part-Time or Job-Share Reference: 98296 To be considered you will need: Essential Formal qualifications in Business, Management, and/or Project Management, or demonstrated relevant experience and expertise with construction camp or similar facilities operations.
Demonstrable experience of building and maintaining stakeholder relations to ensure smooth project workflows.
In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, with a track record of maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.
Demonstrable ability to identify and resolve conflicts, including service delivery issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Demonstrable ability to utilise relevant computer software packages for project reporting, such as Microsoft Office.
Desirable Previous experience working with Indigenous groups.
Knowledge of the maintenance and upkeep of facilities, utilities, and infrastructure within a construction camp.
Experience with accommodation audit processes and associated legislation.
