Although some state laws allow Marijuana usage, it is still federally illegal. If applying to Intelligence positions requiring a security clearance, candidates must be free from Marijuana usage 90 days prior to submitting the required security clearance application (i.e., SF-86). Candidates also must be free of all other illegal drugs for at least 12 months prior to submitting the SF-86. It is important that you be truthful when completing your SF-86. We are advising you of these requirements so that you can assess whether you will be able to obtain a security clearance from the Government under these conditions. Please be aware that if your security clearance is denied, you will be ineligible to be processed for a clearance for 1 year, by any company or any Government agency. If the above does apply to you, we encourage you to re-apply once you have maintained a 90-day abstinence from Marijuana usage and/or 365-day abstinence from all other illegal drugs.
