Hunter New England Local Health District CAM21407 Manning Base Hospital - Taree Unaccredited Trainee - Department of Emergency Medicine Temporary Full-Time (12 months) About the role The Manning Base Hospital Unaccredited Trainee programme offers committed Medical Officers interested in honing their acute medical skills the opportunity to develop knowledge, confidence and experience in a protected environment. Working to the motto of "Excellence through Education", Manning hospital prides itself on supporting junior medical staff looking to step up to the Registrar level of their training. The Manning ED is accredited by ACEM for completion of Emergency Medicine Certificates, Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas. All successful applicants will be given support to complete Advanced Life Support, Resus 4 Kids, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and commence a district wide Point of Care Ultrasound Accreditation program if desired. Upon completion of the Unaccredited program, the Medical Officer will have a well-established network of senior contacts and references, putting them in an ideal position to apply for vocational training with an Australian Specialist College. Those with a demonstrable commitment to rural and regional communities are especially encouraged to apply. An equitable share of after-hours work is expected of those applying for this position. For further details please refer to the Position Description. Where you'll be working Manning Hospital provides a unique learning opportunity. Being nearly 200km by road from the nearest referral centre and covering an extensive catchment, the amount of fascinating pathology that presents and is managed entirely in the local system is extraordinary. The hospital itself consists of 180 beds and provides specialist run services including Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthesia ; Medical specialties including Renal, Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Infections Diseases ; Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology ; General Surgery, Urology and Orthopaedics ; Psychiatry, Rehabilitation Services, and Oncology Services to the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry, Greater Taree and Gloucester local government areas. Taree's town name comes from the Aboriginal word Djarii, meaning Figtree. Taree is situated on the banks of the Manning River in the heart of the beautiful Manning Valley. A spectacular meeting point of coastal beauty and hinterland wonder, the Manning Valley is a gem on the NSW North Coast. Cruise the beautiful river, swim at stunning beaches and find bushwalks, waterfalls and lookouts along the way. Little known world-class surf breaks can be found only a short drive from the hospital for those in the know. Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 25,000 inpatients, 35,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year. With a population of over 90,300 and with the median age of 52 years old the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group age of 85 years and over. About you Skills and Experience  (not limited to) · Qualifications – MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Clinical – hold at least two full years post graduate experience as a medical officer by the commencement of contract. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised, complex clinical environment whilst utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise. Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under supervision and have an understanding of ones own limitations. Ability to work proficiently as a member of a multidisciplinary team during periods of high demand and activity in an organised manner. · Participate in a seven day per week roster inclusive of night shifts. · Participate in an on-call roster to cover short notice leave and other emergent situations. · Participate in a SRMO relief roster if required. Demonstrated experience working within a rural setting. · Interest in and/or experience in quality assurance, quality improvement and research activities. · Interest in and/or experience in undergraduate teaching. · Contribute to and participate in appropriate quality activities to improve the standards of care to patients.
