Ballina Shire Council is seeking an experienced Town Planner - Development Assessment to join council's Planning and Environmental Health Division.
In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective assessment of development applications, providing professional advice on planning and construction matters, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
You will play a key part in delivering high-quality customer service and contributing to the growth and development of the community.
Key Responsibilities: Customer Service: Provide timely and professional advice to applicants and Council staff regarding development applications, planning legislation, and related matters.
Development Assessment: Assess and determine development applications, ensuring compliance with legislation, Council policies, and procedures.
Conduct inspections and address complaints or non-compliance issues.
Written Communication: Prepare clear and concise reports, respond to public inquiries, and contribute to Council policies and documentation.
Financial Management: Manage tasks within specified budgets and allocated resources.
Team Collaboration: Work effectively with internal teams and contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
Continual Improvement: Assist with process improvements to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
Essential: Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or a related discipline (PIA recognised).
Proven experience in development assessment and statutory planning.
Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, delivering customer service within deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to contribute to technical reports.
Competence in using the Microsoft Office suite and other relevant business systems.
Current Class C driver's licence.
Desirable: Knowledge of the Local Government Act and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act .
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Previous experience in Local Government.
