About the Role

This role Provides Therapeutic family casework to families, children and young people who are at risk of escalation within the Child Protection system.

Your Role

Provide therapeutic casework services based on the philosophy and principles of the neuro-sequential model of therapeutics and the NATI (Neuro-Developmental, Attachment, Trauma Informed) approach to case management.
Work within an integrated case management approach by working closely with the SAL Consulting Clinical Team and the Youth Hope Coordinator to identify the therapeutic needs of families, children and young people and structure the support intervention accordingly.
Provide planning support and structure for the safety of children and young people in families and immediately take appropriate action in line with UCCYPF policies and the Mandatory Reporting Guidelines where the safety of the child or young person is at risk.
Assess families' casework needs holistically and assist them to formulate goals that address their needs. Provide families with appropriate assistance to achieve these goals, which may include skill development, therapeutic interventions, advocacy and holistic case management.
Utilise assessment and casework skills that draw upon a variety of therapeutic models and approaches as appropriate.
Promote the needs of socially disadvantaged service users and contribute to appropriate community responses including the development of partnerships
Maintain appropriate electronic records for service user case files and administration processes, in accordance with Carelink policy and procedures.

What are we looking for?

Degree level qualifications or equivalent in Social Work, Welfare, Psychology or related field with a minimum of 3 years casework experience with children, young people and families.
Demonstrated ability to engage families with high and complex needs and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of intervention strategies from a range of theoretical models.
Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and an ability to conduct risk and family assessments within a competency-based approach.
Demonstrated commitment to provision of services to socio economically disadvantaged families, children and young people.
Demonstrated experience in engaging and working with culturally and linguistically diverse children, young people and families in a way that is culturally responsive and appropriate
Demonstrated experience in engaging and working with Aboriginal children, young people and families in a way that is culturally responsive and appropriate
Demonstrated commitment to children and young people remaining with their own family provided they are safe.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Current driver's license and willingness to transport families, children and young people.
Interpersonal skills and characteristics will include warmth, flexibility, ability to think and act appropriately in crises, excellent communication skills and empathy
