About us: The Surgical Services unit at John Hunter Hospital is a crucial component of our healthcare system, encompassing a range of administrative and support roles that are vital to the effective functioning of surgical and perioperative services.
This unit includes positions such as Patient Support Officers, Administration Officers, and Ward Clerks, who operate across our two operating theatre suites, Same Day/Day of Surgery, Perioperative Service, and Surgical Wards.
The work environment within the Surgical Services unit is dynamic and fast-paced, reflecting the bustling nature of a major hospital.
The Role: Managing patient records, assisting clinical staff with administrative tasks, and overseeing documentation related to surgical procedures and patient care. Provide administrative support to the Operating Theatre Nurse Unit Manager to ensure the seamless operation of the theatre suite. Facilitating communication between various departments, including operating theatre suites, Same Day/Day of Surgery, and Surgical Wards, to ensure that all necessary preparations, paperwork, and information are in place for surgeries. Managing phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication, performing data entry, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of records. Reviewing clinical notes and applying the appropriate coding to ensure precise and accurate data collection. Precise data entry and a keen eye for detail are essential.
Ensuring accuracy is crucial for the smooth operation of the Theatre Complex and for keeping patient records up-to-date. The available shifts are: Every second Thursday from 2:45 PM to 9:15 PM Every second Saturday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM About you: We are seeking a candidate with excellent time management skills who can remain calm under pressure.
The ideal individual should thrive in a busy environment and be able to handle multiple competing priorities.
While a Medical Terminology Certificate is preferred, it is not essential for this fast-paced role.
