Test Automation Engineers, (APS 5 & 6) - BA, Testing & Dev Ops APS 5 salary: $82,085 - $92,201; APS 6 salary: $92,210 - $104,135 (plus 15.4% super) Locations: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Geelong, Melbourne and Sydney Several permanent and temporary positions; full-time and part-time hours; flexible working arrangements The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking to recruit several Test Automation Engineers for roles within the testing and quality assurance domain of the Business Analysis, Testing and Dev Ops section. The positions are at both the APS 5 and APS 6 classification level (depending on skills and experience) and we are looking to fill both permanent and temporary positions. Successful applicants would be expected to work full-time or part-time hours, although flexible working arrangements and a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies. About the roles Our Test Automation Engineers are part of a team responsible for the design, build, testing and deployment of effective test automation solutions to ensure the quality, reliability and completeness of business systems deployed on Bureau platforms. Some of their key responsibilities are: Undertake test automation projects in collaboration with key stakeholders, vendor representatives and other IT teams / experts Contribute to the development and implementation of test automation strategies and plans and provide input into test scripts Execute scheduled test cases in accordance with agreed strategy / plan and timeframes Analyse and review test automation results, modify tests where necessary and provide reports on progress, anomalies, risks and issues and recommendations for improvement Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, vendor representatives and other IT teams / experts to discuss test results and ensure that issues / problems that arise during test automation are resolved efficiently On occasion, undertake manual testing. Much of the work we do impacts the acquisition, processing and dissemination of critical statistical products that are used by governments, businesses and the public in key decision-making processes. What we are looking for (selection criteria) To be suitable as a Test Automation Engineer (APS 5 or APS 6 level) , you should have most of the following skills, qualities and experience: At least two years' experience with either: Active, continuous, hands-on experience with designing and writing test automation solutions, creating test data, and creating and maintaining robust and sustainable test automation frameworks, or Experience as a software developer in Java, Java Script, Python, or C# Experience with mainstream test automation platforms and products, ranging from scripted solutions to low/no code capabilities An understanding of the integration of test automation execution and results with modern CI/CD solutions Creating high quality testing related artefacts such as test plans, test execution reports and test handover documents Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with various stakeholders In addition to the above, as a high performing APS 6 Test Automation Engineer , you will also be expected to have: A higher degree of demonstrated technical and leadership capabilities and experience Experience in coaching, mentoring or managing staff. Desirable but not essential: ISTQB qualifications Tertiary qualifications in ICT, computer science, software engineering or related discipline Experience creating test automation frameworks from scratch will be highly regarded Experience with agile project delivery methodologies.
