The Position This is a key role in a friendly, motivated team focussed on ecological research on some of Australia's most endangered species.
The role is integral to delivering a research program focussed on conservation of Tasmanian threatened birds and involves a mix of field and office work.
Based in Hobart, Tasmania, the role will be responsible for delivering key aspects of an ongoing research program, which will include fauna and flora surveys in sometimes remote areas, tree climbing, driving, data collection and curation, supporting other staff and students in the team, report writing and working within tight time frames and budgets.
The role will primarily focus on two research projects targeting swift parrots and forty-spotted pardalotes.
The Person We are looking for a qualified ecologist/conservation biologist with experience in organising, designing, delivering and reporting upon complex research and monitoring projects.
The ideal candidate will enjoy tackling challenging problems and encourage team members and colleagues to workshop effective solutions.
Participation in field work, including high-intensity activities like tree climbing and hiking in remote locations, is essential.
Candidates must have demonstrable experience working safely and effectively in such environments.
Highly effective time-management and organisational skills, along with the ability to balance and prioritize competing tasks, troubleshoot problems in challenging situations, and a commitment to positive and effective teamwork in dynamic situations are crucial.
The candidate should also be able to work independently, possess effective communication and social skills, and have experience managing stakeholder relationships in a positive and respectful manner.
