Your Opportunity The Darwin Sobering Up Shelter provides a critical service for homeless and displaced individuals (aged 18 and over) who are under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
It offers a safe space for those at risk of harm, allowing them to recover until they are no longer intoxicated.
The Shelter works closely with the NT Police and Larrakia Night Patrol, ensuring clients are brought in from the greater Darwin and Palmerston areas.
Staff provide compassionate care and assist clients in connecting with services that promote health and wellbeing, all while maintaining a culturally respectful and sensitive environment.
As the Support Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the shelter.
You will support the Program Manager and lead staff in providing quality care, while overseeing key operational functions like stock management, staff supervision, and service delivery.
This role requires a hands-on, diplomatic, and organised individual who is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for clients.
This is a 24-hour service, therefore y ou must be available for 8-hour shifts covering a 7-day roster (combination of night and day shifts) covering weekends and public holidays.
Your Key Responsibilities Oversee shelter services, ensuring clients receive safe and supportive care during their recovery process.
Provide supervision and guidance to staff to meet best practices in service delivery and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Assist with stock and inventory management, maintain accurate records in MA Connect, and support the Program Manager with various administrative tasks Conduct intake assessments, support frontline staff, and ensure culturally sensitive and respectful client interactions that contribute to their health and wellbeing Assist with staff scheduling and be available for on-call responsibilities, taking on a full week every 4-6 weeks to ensure operational continuity.
Requirements for Success With a significant background in AOD and/or Community Services sectors, you will be confident in your assessment processes.
Other requirements include: Previous experience in a similar position.
Demonstrated professional approach to the role including maintaining professional boundaries.
Sound verbal and written skills to document case plan outcomes and advocate for the best interest of the client Strong computer literacy skills with ability to learn new software programs quickly Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain would is desired.
Highly developed administrative skills and the ability to provide support to management.
Proven time management skills.
Self-motivated with inspiring can-do attitude.
Full driver licence with no restrictions Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
