University College (UC) is a leading residential college with an extensive program of academic and wellbeing support for students provided in a friendly, relaxed and supportive community. It is a vibrant home away from home for 340 students studying at the University of Melbourne and other nearby tertiary institutions.
The Student Wellbeing Counsellor is a full-time position reporting to the Dean of Students. As a member of the Student Services and Support team, the role provides support and promotes positive mental health and wellbeing for student residents. This includes the provision of counselling services and delivery of programs fostering resilience and supporting the social, emotional and academic needs of students.
Key to this role is the ability to develop relationships and be a trusted advisor to residents at a pivotal time in their lives. Working respectfully and collaboratively with students, staff and the wider College community is essential to this role.
The Student Wellbeing Counsellor role provides a rewarding opportunity to:
Demonstrate well-developed and experienced counselling skills to provide one-on-one and group counselling, respond to critical student incidents and provide referrals to appropriate external services as required.Identify, develop and implement current and new opportunities and resources that enhance mental health management, engagement and wellbeing.Work with the Dean of Students and Student Club to develop and deliver programs aimed at building students' resilience, leadership capabilities and resources to maintain their health and wellbeing.Support the Dean of Students with student management in line with relevant policies and procedures.Utilise outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a positive approach to building a respectful and inclusive college community.Support and promote student wellbeing as a focus for all members of the College community.Assist with student interviews and selection.Attend student and College events as required.On occasion, be on call after hours in the absence of the Dean of Students.Relevant tertiary qualifications in counselling, psychology or social work along with current registration with AHPRA, PACFA or other professional body is required. Experience working with tertiary students in diverse educational environments or residential settings will be an advantage.
University College offers an excellent salary package plus benefits including lunch and car parking. This role works onsite 5 days per week and will require some flexibility to attend evening and weekend events as required.
