About the programStroke Foundation's StrokeSafe Program aims to raise the profile of stroke as a major health issue and the role of the Stroke Foundation in fighting it.
A key component is stroke prevention and awareness activities.
StrokeSafe talks are offered as part of community engagement across Australia to community groups, workplaces and at events.
Talks are delivered by trained volunteers to groups to raise awareness of what stroke is, how to reduce stroke risk and how to recognise the signs of stroke (using the F.A.S.T.
test).
Training and presentation resources are provided to ensure StrokeSafe presentations are delivered consistently across Australia.
Stroke Foundation volunteers also assist in delivering community events and programs nationally as required, including:
Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check (May)National Stroke Week (August)Education sessions at health and wellness eventsDisplays at other community events such as shopping centres or festivals.Complete a minimum of 5 events/talks per calendar year.
These can be online Zoom and/or in-person talks.Deliver endorsed messages in StrokeSafe presentations in a consistent and approved manner.Distribute any resources relevant at each talk.Assist with Stroke Foundation events.
Duties may include setting up a promotional table of resources, assisting with questionnaires and distributing Stroke Foundation resources and information.Process any relevant reimbursement claims in a timely manner including providing any required supporting material.Notifying the State Community Engagement Coordinator of any issues in a prompt manner or if your availability changes.Note – volunteers are not permitted to give any medical advice or answer any questions that are medical in nature. Your background, skills and experienceExcellent verbal communication skills to deliver clear information to diverse audiences.
Public speaking experience will be highly regarded.Strong computer skills, with proficiency in common software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite including Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook etc) and other common business software.Proficient in using Zoom for virtual meetings, for hosting StrokeSafe talks and troubleshooting common issues.Willingness to learn and become familiar with content of StrokeSafe presentation.
