About the Role Full time Ongoing The Senior Policy Officer will work as part of a high performing team to deliver key government priorities to reform the building system and deliver safe and quality buildings for Victorians with a focus supporting intergovernmental functions which support national building standards, and cross jurisdictional.
This includes developing and recommending policy options, preparing advice on required legislative changes, assisting with drafting and making legislation, preparing briefings and correspondence for Ministers and executives, and influencing and negotiating across a wide range of government, industry, and consumer stakeholders to gain agreement to proposals to achieve effective building policy and regulatory outcomes.
Proactively lead, manage or contribute as part of a team to develop, review and evaluate complex and innovative policy options, including projects that deliver the government's priorities. Provide authoritative, timely, accurate and evidence-based advice for Ministers and the Department's executive management on complex issues and suggest solutions that are factual, accurate and suitable for the intended audience. Undertake research and prepare timely and high-quality submissions, reports and briefs, regulations and discussion papers with supporting documentation on complex and sensitive matters, demonstrating a detailed understanding of the policy, political and legal context. Initiate, maintain and manage effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to gain cooperation and influence views on complex, contentious and sensitive matters within established parameters in order to support government and business unit priorities. Qualifications and Experience Mandatory Demonstrated experience in successful delivery of complex projects in a multi-stakeholder environment. A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, economics, or a related discipline. Experience in the development and amendment of legislation and/or regulations in a State or Commonwealth public service setting. Knowledge of building regulation and/or relevant regulatory schemes.
