About the role
The Specialist Advisor – Disadvantaged Learners plays a crucial role in developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on the outcomes for initiatives that support the success and inclusion of TAFE Gippsland's '
Strategy to attract and engage learners experiencing intersectional disadvantage'.
This is inclusive of campus-based programs and outreach programs such as Our Place. In collaboration with TAFE Gippsland's educational delivery leadership and trainers, this role will offer expert advice and support to teaching teams, promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. It will also ensure that students from various underrepresented groups have access to inclusive intake processes, course design, resources, and the support needed to succeed academically.
About you
As the Specialist Advisor – Disadvantage Learners, you will have extensive experience working in Secondary Schools or the VET sector. You will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse student groups. You will have a strong focus on collaborative relationships both internally and externally to TAFE Gippsland, including experience working with community-based support services within the inner Gippsland region. With a proven ability and a strong understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles, you will be well-positioned to implement programs and initiatives to support underrepresented student cohorts. You have the ability to collect, analyse and report on relevant data that will influence outcomes in respect of learner success and retention. A six-month probationary period applies to this role.
Qualifications and experience
Bachelor Degree (or higher) in Education, Community Services, Social Work, or Community Development.
Extensive experience (exceeding 5 years) working in Secondary School and/or Vocational Education and Training sector is required.
Experience collaborating with community-based support services within the Inner Gippsland region is required.
Experience directly working in roles providing, advising or working with student support services, diversity and inclusion in education is desirable.
Mandatory requirements
Current Victorian Working with Children Clearance
Current Police Check (not older than 12 months old)
Current Driver's Licence (travel is a requirement of the role)
