Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.RequirementsPosition #: P140861Full-time: 40 hoursPay: $17.58 per hour plus an additional $1.00 per hour as a night shift differential hourLocation: Main Campus, 3700 "O" Street, Washington, DCWorking in accordance with a detailed plan to support academic, social, and cultural events, the Special Events Worker I performs general and specific cleaning, deliveries, set ups and breakdowns of equipment, such as tables, chairs, podiums, stages, coat racks, and other equipment requested for events.
In emergency or unusual situations, the incumbent performs other tasks as assigned including but not limited to custodial responsibilities of floor care, classroom cleaning, restroom cleaning, snow and ice removal, and clean up associated with water or fire damages.
This person's work constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn, and work.
Keeping abreast of changes and new developments in applicable codes and regulations, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Deliver, set up, and break down equipment including tables, chairs, podiums, stages, coat racks, and other specialty items for University events, performing these actions as assigned or as scheduled to ensure that events are set up accurately and timely and that the user is satisfied.Inspect event spaces for cleanliness prior to event setups and post-event breakdowns, sweeping, moping, vacuuming, and dust moping floors as needed.Manage the cleaning of walls, high and low dusting, cleaning light fixtures, trash removal, replenishing hand sanitizer dispensers, spot cleaning carpets, clean hallways, entrance ways, stairways, and elevators to support University operations as assigned and/or as scheduled.Vacuum and spot clean carpets and upholstery, free carpets of rips and strings, and tape down clean edges as needed, cleaning all surfaces and removing water marks and smudges from all surfaces.Clean administrative spaces, laboratories, and classrooms as needed, spot cleaning and shampooing carpets and upholstery using acceptable methods of cleaning.Dust and mop floors, dust and clean supplies and return vents, replace burned out light bulbs, clean trash containers, dust high and low, clean light diffusers, clean interior sills of exterior windows, and clean interior and outside at ground level of exterior windows.Ensure economic use of supplies and materials to conserve University resources, drawing and/or requisitioning supplies, parts, and materials as needed, using such items economically to avoid undue costs.Use safety equipment and protective clothing as required including rubber gloves, aerosol-filter facemasks, and eye protection, keeping supervisor informed of supply and material needs to ensure adequate inventory is maintained.Oversee key security and related aspects of building security, ensuring the security of keys, pagers, or radios assigned.
Return issued items to supervisor on a daily basis, immediately notifying supervisor of any unaccounted for keys or work phones.Work InteractionsThis position reports directly to the Special Events Supervisor and works alongside five to ten other special event workers.
The incumbent will work alone or with others.
Under certain circumstances not limited to emergency snow removal, spills, and flooding, the incumbent will respond to requests from the Management team, including but not limited to the Director of Custodial and Grounds, Assistant Director of Campus Operations, Assistant Director of Custodial services, Assistant Director of Night Operations, Custodial Supervisors, Landscaping and Grounds Manager, Solid Waste and Recycling Disposal Supervisor.
The incumbent works mainly with employees in the custodial, Landscaping, and Waste Management units and Planning and Facilities Management department, but as work is being performed, may interact with students, faculty, staff and visitors as they traverse the campus.
It is important that the employee work cooperatively with fellow employees to assure work is completed on time and according to specified plans.Requirements and QualificationsHS diploma or GEDOne year of janitorial, Special Events setup, or general laborer work experienceMust have a valid driver's license issued from the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia.Will be required to complete a training program in special events and building cleaningMust be able to read and understand product label instructions and to read and understand University policies and proceduresMust be able to work well as part of a team and independentlyMust be capable of relating custodial and maintenance problems clearly to the supervisor and/or the Work Management CenteCarry a University issued work phone pager or radio while on duty and respond when contactedMay be required to serve as team leader of the special event workers in the absence of the Special Event II workerMust dress in proper uniform and carry valid University identification at all timesWork Mode DesignationCurrent Georgetown Employees:If you currently work at Georgetown University, please exit this website and login to GMS () using your Net ID and password.
