About the role We are extremely excited to announce that we are inviting candidate applications for a Solutions Architect for Data Platform role to be based in our Melbourne office, on a hybrid working setup. The Solutions Architect for Data Platform is tasked with the comprehensive oversight of data products developed on Orica's multi-cloud platform. The set of responsibilities span from setting strategic directions to the development and continuous management of data products. A critical aspect of their role is to bridge the gap between business needs and technical execution, translating complex requirements into actionable designs for developers to execute. This ensures that Orica's data infrastructure remains secure, scalable, and capable of delivering premium data to meet the essential needs of the company's diverse business, IT, and technology sectors. Aside from their architectural duties, the Solutions Architect for Data Platform demands proficiency in API management, encompassing both the technical and functional aspects as data traverses from its origins to its consumption by end-users. The Solutions Architect is also responsible for aligning detailed designs with Orica's enterprise goals and customer-facing solution standards, thereby upholding the high quality of the products. Their contribution is pivotal in supporting Orica's business and IT strategies, involving active collaboration with IT personnel, vendors, and business stakeholders to design, implement, and oversee data and automation platforms and technologies, all while leveraging their extensive IT expertise and strong skills in leadership and stakeholder engagement. What you will be doing The primary responsibilities of the role include interpreting business stakeholder needs and converting them into technical solutions, and crafting and managing comprehensive data products and platform architectures that align with business and IT goals. This encompasses aspects such as data storage, processing, analysis, security, scalability, and performance. The role also involves selecting suitable technologies, managing APIs, collaborating with data platform engineers, and establishing data governance practices with data stewards to ensure solution accuracy and consistency. Leadership duties involve leading a performance culture, driving inclusivity, and promoting collaboration across teams to align with strategic directions and Orica's vision. The role also requires staying current with data platform technologies, contributing to capacity planning, and driving innovation within the data platform team. Additionally, there's an emphasis on building strong relationships with business stakeholders, assisting with proof of value/concept engagements, and ensuring compliance with Orica's standards and IT strategy. In the area of Solution Design & System Development, the focus is on collaborating with internal teams to enhance value delivery, including user experience. This involves maintaining a suite of artifacts that define technology blueprints, supporting the full lifecycle of data product development, and ensuring solutions are feasible and robust through collaboration with various leads and architects. Comprehensive documentation is maintained throughout the design, development, and implementation processes. IT Design Governance entails presenting designs/concepts to stakeholders, reviewing design changes for compliance with Orica standards and ensuring all changes meet quality requirements. The role includes planning and monitoring application delivery activities, contributing to IT strategy, and overseeing project activities that affect systems. Release & Lifecycle Management covers managing product releases and upgrades, coordinating with vendors for impact assessments, and ensuring communication with business users. Stakeholder Engagement is about supporting solutions and ensuring alignment across functional and business areas. Generally, the role requires maintaining work flexibility, escalating issues, and ensuring that application delivery aligns with IT and business objectives. What you will bring Tertiary qualification in an IT-related discipline 10+ years in IT with experience in at least 2 of the following domains (SAP, Data Management, ETL, Data Analytics, Data Visualisation, Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Cloud Data Services, API management) Experience working for global organisations leveraging modern ways of working including Agile and DevOps Familiar with key data and automation platforms and providers in the market and their strength/weakness Strong planning skills to conduct planning and forecasts Proven experience working with a multi-sourced team of employees, contractors, and multiple vendors Demonstrated experience and competency in API/integration management methodologies Demonstrated problem-solving and remediation skills Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences Initiative to anticipate situations and problems and ability to advise on appropriate workarounds and solutions What we offer As part of a truly global company, you will have the ability to grow and learn in a diverse, collaborative culture.
