SES Band 1 - Assistant Secretary, Digital Operations and Support BranchThe Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking applications from talented and highly motivated individuals to fill the Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 vacancy of Assistant Secretary, Digital Operations and Support Branch.As an Assistant Secretary in the department, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team. You will support the Executive in the provision of advice to Government and contribute to the leadership, management and strategic direction setting of the department. You will manage, develop and implement major government and departmental initiatives; participate in both departmental and whole of government forums; and contribute to corporate leadership and capability development for the department, including building high performing teams.As Assistant Secretary, Digital Operations and Support Branch - you will have strong technical, program and project management experience and be responsible for leading and delivering a mix of priority technology projects and business-as-usual initiatives. In addition to your strong technical capabilities you will lead, inspire and motivate teams, and foster collaboration and strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve project, business-as-usual and required governance outcomes.Our ideal candidateThe ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking professional with hands-on business experience and expertise in technology and project delivery. A strong understanding of operational delivery is essential to ensure technology solutions meet the department's needs. You will bring proven leadership, a strong record of achievement, and excellent stakeholder management skills. You have experience providing high-level advice, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the credibility to earn the trust of staff and senior management. Your focus on results, personal drive, sound judgement, and intellectual rigour will further enhance your ability to inspire trust and respect.This position is located in Canberra, ACT or Melbourne, VIC. Other locations may be considered on a case by case basis.DutiesLead the delivery and implementation of digital and technology initiatives ensuring alignment with the department's vision and strategic intent.Provide leadership, and mentor and support the team, creating a high performing environment that attracts, engages, and retains skilled staff.Provide direction, advice, and guidance across the department on technology systems and projects to ensure services are delivered in an effective, efficient, and timely manner.Identify and manage technology risks, ensuring governance frameworks and reporting systems are in place to deliver technology services and projects on time and within budget.Identify and implement opportunities for innovation to improve and modernise service delivery.Keep abreast of and monitor emerging and future industry trends.Actively build and maintain stakeholder relationships internally and externally across the APS to facilitate collaboration.Represent the department in forums engaging with other government departments and external stakeholders.Create a positive workplace culture that encourages a mindset where respectfully challenging the status quo is acceptable and desirable.Provide forthright and impartial advice in a constructive manner to facilitate the best outcome for the department and system users.Promote the practice of quality service delivery that meets contractual and legal obligations and organisational policy and procedures.EligibilityUnder section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance.
