Enabling world class biomedical and multidisciplinary research at the Mallett St Campus Brain and Mind Centre in Camperdown, the Senior Technical Officer manages a dedicated team in the delivery of timely and effective technical services to research groups to achieve enhanced education/research support outcomes. This includes ensuring the delivery of day-to-day technical support services, coordination of the purchase and delivery of supplies to support the labs as required, managing the provision of technical advice to educators/researchers, and ensuring that the facility and equipment are properly maintained.
Under broad direction of the Manager, the Senior Technical Officer will lead a team to implement new processes, procedures, systems, and ways of working to improve customer service delivery, efficiency, and resource utilization, and training to support the day-to-day running of research laboratories. They oversee the professional development of a team of technical staff, ensuring that relevant technical and professional training is undertaken, mentoring, and coaching the team to develop skills that positively affect how they work and interact with others.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
provide effective day-to-day leadership, management, delegation, coordination, guidance and support to direct reports support and manage the agreed delivery of technical services in the designated area manage the delivery of training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, facilities, and general procedures lead the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the responsibility area create and endorse a positive, professional, customer-focused team culture lead the effective utilization of resources within the designated area of responsibility, ensuring that the work area's education/research requirements are effectively met champion best practices, workplace health and safety, compliance, and risk management create and manage opportunities to cross-skill, including drawing on the knowledge and expertise of others provide project management or project support as required, collaborating with other TSS, PSU or central project managers/teams as required workforce development and career planning provide financial management support for the area of responsibility Act as Local Radiation Safety Officer About you:
a degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent extensive experience working in PC2 labs working with tissue culture (stem cell, mouse) etc Willingness to undertake training and responsibility as a Radiation Safety Officer staff training, development and management, with demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff strong stakeholder management and relationship building ability fitness ability to do manual lifting as required relevant experience in maintaining a PC2 research laboratory relevant experience preparing, maintaining/growing and storing viral, bacterial and parasite cultures working knowledge of laboratory regulations ability to apply and contribute to the development, maintenance, and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures.
