About the role The Senior Technical Officer, Digital Manufacturing supports the development and delivery of practical teaching, research, and workshop activities in the School of Engineering. This position operates and maintains equipment within the Digital Manufacturing CNC Workshop and the student accessible workshop. Responsibilities include keeping accurate procedures and maintenance records, providing expertise on equipment operation, repair, and safety to research staff and students, primarily supporting Mechanical Engineering, but extending to other disciplines as needed.
As a Senior Technical Officer, you will: Manage the following equipment: 3D metal printer (LPBF), CNC machining centres milling and turning, EDM Wire cut machine, 3D polymer printers, laser cutters, machine and tool maintenance. Provide day-to-day management of laboratories and teaching spaces, including workflow organisation of practical class support. Proactively engage with teaching activities, in collaboration with academic staff, by providing specialist knowledge and training on equipment, software and laboratory materials. Prepare equipment and ensure all procedures and practices are up-to-date primarily in the Mechanical Discipline and support other disciplines across the school as required. Research, propose, coordinate and implement technical solutions to support the strategic initiatives and operations of the school. To be successful, you'll have: Extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in the Mechanical Engineering fields; or Trade certificate, advanced diploma or equivalent An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. A background or strong interest related to the areas of motorsport, automotive engineering, aerospace engineering, instrumentation, machining, CNC machining/programming or 3D printing would be an ideal fit. Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety principles. Ability to work with and train research staff and students.
