Position Profile: Do you have a passion for research capability and capacity building, supporting change and driving positive outcomes in regional and remote healthcare in Western Australia?
We are seeking a suitably experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Officer (Research) who will provide WACHS-wide research development and capability building programs, including research education, building partnerships, research advisory support, and communications.
This role will enable you to expand and build on our suite of research capability and capacity initiatives to develop clinician researchers in collaboration with WACHS business areas and our partners, including our Allied Health Novice Research Fellowships, Junior Medical Officer Preparation for Research Program and Advanced Training Research Project Support Program. You will lead the development and delivery of initiatives and supports that build rural research capability and strengthen the research culture within our health service. Successful implementation of initiatives will involve program planning, leadership and management, managing partnerships and relationships, engagement and communications, delivering research education and training, and planning and conducting evaluations.
You will bring your passion and research experience to strengthen evidence-based services that we offer, with a focus on 'learning by doing' approaches to research education and training. Our Senior Project Officer (Research) is encouraged to think flexibly and creatively contributing to expanding upon our ground-breaking services and success in this fast-paced environment.
Area Profile: The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometre area. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health services and health centres located across rural and remote Western Australia. Our core business is the provision of quality, accessible health services to country WA residents and visitors.
The Research and Innovation team leads the delivery of the WACHS Research and Innovation Strategy, oversees the ethical review and approval of research at WACHS and delivers innovation programs within WACHS. All activities are designed to help improve the delivery of care in country WA. The team also builds research capacity, capability and culture and invests in research resources, partnerships, and infrastructure, including the WACHS Library Service.
In addition, the team is responsible for delivering the WA Teletrial program. This program aims to increase access of regional, rural and remote patients to clinical trials closer to their homes by national scaling of the Australasian Teletrial Model, which enables satellite sites to offer clinical trials locally by linking to primary sites using telehealth as part of the trial cluster.
Key Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and coordinating research capability building initiatives, managing stakeholders and enhancing research capability, capacity, and culture across WACHS. They will bring their knowledge and experience in research education and training for rural health professionals. This position will require the occupant to harness their well-developed organisational and project management skills, excellent strategic problem-solving and interpersonal skills, establishing and maintaining a variety of effective relationships that drive research capability building aligned to WACHS priorities. An ability to work autonomously with minimal direction to achieve project outcomes and team goals will allow the right person to excel.
