Job DescriptionNSW Government DepartmentContract Role - 12 months from start date$1200-$1300 per day + super8 hrs per dayEveleigh locationPurpose of the positionThe Senior Project Director will oversee the whole of project life cycle, from development and preparation of all business cases and related plans through to delivery, commissioning and successful handover, in consultation with key stakeholders.Key accountabilitiesLead, motivate and mentor members of the project team to build commitment to shared goals, develop effective working relationships and create a customer-focused culture.Direct, lead and mentor team members, monitor and review staff performance, foster ongoing professional development and ensure staff have the knowledge, skills and support to achieve their performance objectives to drive high performance, best practice and continuous improvement.Lead and manage a cross-portfolio team to deliver projects and programs, which can be a portfolio of projects ranging in value from $10m-$250m+.Manage the project team to ensure achievement of key accountabilities of their role description.Ensure compliance of project team with the Department's systems, tools and processes.Manage scope, budget, program, safety, assurance and quality across a portfolio of projects. Manage financial reporting, quality assurance and procurement services to enable the Department to meet its objectives.Lead engagement and develop positive relationships with major external stakeholders including local government authorities and central government agencies to ensure the smooth passage of capital works programs from planning and budget submissions through to delivery.Liaise with statutory approval bodies, including local councils and the Department of Planning and Environment to ensure statutory approval is achieved efficiently. Ensure the correct statutory planning approval path is identified and undertaken for individual projects and programs including consultation with local councils and relevant consent authorities.Ensure decision making is progressed through appropriate governance and aligns with government policy and legislation and the Department's policy framework.Ensure the Department meets all legislative, contractual and safety obligations through coordinating and managing projects in accordance with the Department's asset planning and management processes and principles.Review and contribute to key ministerial and other communications relating to the projects in the SPD's portfolio. Prepare information promptly in succinct and plain English to suit NSW Government briefing and communication requirements. Tailor information to suit relevant audiences to communicate complex information clearly.Selection criteriaRelevant tertiary and/or post-graduate qualifications in Construction, Engineering, Project Management or related fields.15+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably gained in a large, complex and decentralized work environment.Proven experience delivering projects with longer duration, typically up to 3 years, where objectives develop with time and there are several influential stakeholders and a potential for conflict.Managing portfolios of projects with individual value of less than $75M:i. Proven experience in the successful project management of construction projects to a value of more than $20 million in a commercial environment.ii. Proven experience in delivering projects with multiple simultaneous phases and/or at multiple discrete locations.For SPDs managing major projects with individual value of greater than $75M:i. Proven experience in the successful planning and/or delivery of construction projects to a value of more than $75M.ii.
