About the Company Davidson is the preferred supplier for the government sector and have strong partnerships within local, state and federal government.
We currently have an opportunity for an APS6 Senior Media Officer to commence a temporary contract through until September 2025 with the possibility of an extension.
About the Role This role is part of a pool of marketing and communications professionals that will support the Agency work plan projects for this financial year.
The pool will provide flexible and responsive communication and marketing services to various project teams, ensuring that the Agency's messages are consistent, accurate and aligned with its strategic objectives and stakeholder needs.
The pool will also contribute to building the Agency's reputation and profile as a leader in digital health innovation.
The Senior Media Officer develops and implement strategic media and communications materials to support Agency activities, products and strategic narrative.
Relevant duties 1.
Leadership and Accountability • Lead and manage the delivery of high-quality media and communications products and services that support the Agency's strategic objectives and priorities.
• Provide expert advice and guidance to senior executives, spokespeople, subject matter experts and other stakeholders on media and communications issues, risks and opportunities.
• Develop, implement and evaluate media and communications strategies, plans and campaigns that align with the Agency's brand, values and key messages.
• Monitor, analyse and report on media and communications performance, trends and insights, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and excellence within the media and communications team and across the Agency.
• Provide expertise and technical knowledge in specialist area across a range of programs or activities for the Agency.
• Provide accurate and specialised advice including anticipating problems and contributing to issues management.
• Contribute to the development of team objectives for short-term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.
• Contribute to managing change and uncertainty in the workplace.
• Propose and facilitate innovation initiatives and contribute to business improvement strategies and to change in workplace practices.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management and risk assessment activities within sphere of responsibility.

Management Diversity and Span • Manage a range of media and communications projects and programs, from inception to completion, and ensure they meet the Agency's objectives, quality standards and deadlines.
• Manage complex and sensitive media and communications issues, and respond to media enquiries, requests and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
• Ensure quality outputs for the team including the development of specialist, professional and/or technical expertise.
Conduct regular quality assurance of work-area processes and manage identified risks.
• Assist in strategic planning, program and project management and/or policy development for the work area.
• Implement work plans for the work area including setting tasks and priorities, managing workflow and allocating resources.

Job Context and Environment • Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, where media and communications needs and priorities may change frequently and unpredictably.
• Work closely with other teams and divisions within the Agency, and coordinate media and communications activities and inputs across the organisation.
• Work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including ministers' offices, other government departments and agencies, media outlets, industry partners and community groups.
• Have an in-depth knowledge of the role and functions of the Agency and an understanding of how these relate to a work area.
• Maintain awareness of the longer-term strategic, political or operational outcomes for the Agency/program and possible impacts on the work area.
• Monitor changes in the broader work environment that may impact on work objectives.
• Monitor work area performance with an in-depth understanding of relevant legislative and policy frameworks.

Independence and decision-making • Work with a high degree of independence, initiative and judgement, and exercise discretion and confidentiality in handling media and communications matters.
• Make sound and timely decisions on media and communications issues, based on research, analysis, consultation and best practice.
• Solve complex and challenging media and communications problems, and develop creative and effective solutions that meet stakeholder needs and expectations.
• Seek and provide constructive feedback, and act on opportunities for learning and improvement.
• Escalate and seek guidance from supervisors or other senior executives as appropriate, especially on high-risk or contentious media and communications issues.
• Work with independence, subject to limited direction against established priorities, practices, and methodologies to deliver quality outcomes.
• Produce work requiring little or no revision before finalisation.
• Make decisions, with direction from more senior staff, on tasks/assignments with considerable complexity and sensitivity.
• Make decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, under limited guidance.
Ensure decisions are governed by the application of regulations, best practice principles or the Agency's operating instructions and procedures.
• Make decisions that have a medium to high level of impact on the work area; however, the impact on Agency operations and resources is usually limited.
• Perform research and analysis to make decisions that involve complex or escalated issues, longer-term planning and liaison with other sections on policy, project or operational issues.

Stakeholder Management • Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Identify and understand the needs, expectations and perspectives of different stakeholders, and tailor media and communications strategies, plans and products accordingly.
• Engage and consult with stakeholders on media and communications issues, and provide clear, accurate and timely information and advice.
• Influence and persuade stakeholders to support and promote the Agency's media and communications objectives and messages.
• Manage stakeholder feedback and complaints, and address any concerns or issues in a respectful and professional manner.
• Manage relationships with stakeholders to achieve work area and Agency goals.
• Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations.
• Develop and support complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
About You The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and ability in: • developing and executing effective media and communication strategies • crafting narratives and positive media stories • managing multiple priorities while working effectively under pressure in a changing environment • building strong relationships with stakeholders • generating strategic content for various internal and external channels and stakeholders • establishing transparent communication processes • analysing, evaluating and reporting media engagement metrics • working collaboratively within a small team of specialists.
To be successful in the role, the candidate will require: • relevant tertiary qualifications and more than 5 years' experience working in the media sector • a detailed understanding of the current media landscape • outstanding organisational, interpersonal and communication skills • an excellent work ethic, including self-manage and progressing tasks independently.
Essential requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a higher clearance if required by the Agency Ability to obtain and maintain national police check.
Australian Citizenship is a condition of eligibility.
