Legal Team The APAC legal team, part of a global legal group of around 25 professionals, acts as a crucial business partner, supporting trading, technology, compliance, risk, and HR functions, and providing company secretarial services.
Your Role Reporting to the APAC General Counsel, you will be part of a team of dedicated professionals based mainly in Sydney.
Your responsibilities include: Providing legal advice on new business initiatives, products, markets, and counterparties, including risk assessments and contract negotiations.
Supporting technology and infrastructure teams.
Advising other functions such as Compliance, Procurement, Risk, Business Operations, Tax, and HR.
Managing corporate and commercial initiatives, enterprise risks (Data, IP, AI).
Monitoring and implementing legal and regulatory changes.
Reporting to regional management on legal and compliance issues.
Assisting in policy development, governance, and risk management frameworks.
Supporting global initiatives to improve legal operations and integration.
Mentoring junior legal team members.
Candidate Profile We seek an agile lawyer with entrepreneurial spirit, capable of handling diverse matters and engaging multiple stakeholders.
Requirements: Minimum 12 years PQE, with experience in private practice and/or in-house roles within financial markets or services, preferably with derivatives experience.
Law degree (Bachelor or JD) and valid practising certificate in Australia or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of financial regulations, corporate, commercial law, data, IP, and AI issues.
Regional/international experience is a plus.
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and drafting skills.
Ability to mentor and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Strong commercial acumen and multitasking skills.
Exceptional communication and ethical standards.
