The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional and proven team leader looking for a challenge in a large and dynamic team for 15 months. Reporting to the Superintendent – NQ Environmental Operations you will lead a team of environmental professionals to ensure compliance with environmental obligations and statutory requirements, manage environmental risks and opportunities, and drive positive environmental outcomes together with the business to maintain our social licence to operate.

Key Responsibilities will include
Leading, developing and utilising team members by establishing clear expectations, managing personal performance and accountability in a supportive framework;
Provision of a safe working environment through compliance to HSEC policies and procedures;
Ensuring environmental obligations and risks are known, understood and effectively managed;
Provision of a high level of operational support with a strong customer service to facilitate effective environmental and compliance management;
Coordinating the environmental monitoring program to ensure all compliance and proactive monitoring requirements are met, environmental data managed effectively and assessed against compliance criteria;
Facilitating statutory notifications, reporting and environmental incident investigations;
Coordinating the identification, scoping and coordination of environmental projects and investigations;
Maintaining and implementing effective environmental management system;
Completion of internal and external environmental reporting; and
Identifying risks and opportunities, developing action plans, and delivering on commitments.
The successful candidate will have
Bachelor of Environmental Science / Engineering or equivalent;
5+ years experience in environmental management in mining or heavy industry;
2+ years experience in managing and leading a team;
Demonstrated experience in environmental management systems and their application;
A high level of understanding of relevant statutory requirements and experience in engaging and negotiating with regulators;
Demonstrated skills in identification and assessment of environmental risks and mitigation strategies;
Excellent communication skills with team, internal and external stakeholders;
Strong project management and contractor management skills; and
Attention to detail.
