Details: Legislation, Policy and Programs (LPP) in the Justice and Community Safety Directorate (JACS) has a temporary opportunity in the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) team.
The Criminal Law Branch develops and implements policy, law reform, legislation and programs relating to the criminal justice system.
The work of the DFSV team includes policy and legislative reforms relating to domestic, family or sexual violence, including forced marriage, the family and personal violence order scheme and implementation of justice-related recommendations of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response report.

The Senior Director of the DFSV team is one of three Senior Directors within the Branch and will be responsible for managing a small team of policy officers.
You will work in a fast-paced environment, with responsibility for working on a range of challenging and interesting policy issues, supported by a friendly and experienced executive leadership team.
The work undertaken is relevant and current to the ACT and you are often rewarded with seeing your work take shape within the community.

The Senior Director will be an experienced legal policy officer, with a strong legal background and excellent communication and leadership skills, enabling them to effectively and efficiently develop and deliver sound policy initiatives to achieve the ACT Government's objectives.
You will need to be highly organised, engage critically with challenging and complex legal policy issues, possess high attention to detail, be a strong team player, and be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of justice stakeholders and community stakeholders.

Knowledge or experience in criminal law, or the ability to gain this quickly, will be an asset.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or a related field are highly desirable but not essential to this role.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately until 24 October 2025 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
