About the role and team
We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Associate to join our thriving General Insurance practice in Sydney or Newcastle, working with a highly regarded team.

This role sits within our General Insurance section, which has around 200 team members nationally.
The team has extensive expertise in general liability, including public liability, product liability, property/ISR including expertise in analysing and managing issues such as timing of loss (manifestation of damage), component part analysis, resultant loss and competing cause losses.
Our clients include Allianz Australia, QBE, Insurance Australia Group (IAG), underwriting agencies, and leading Lloyd's of London Syndicates.

This role will focus primarily on the defence of personal injury claims across public and product liability.
You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision.

Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
reviewing documents and preparing evidence; drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties; conference with witnesses and preparing witness statements; supervising and mentoring junior lawyers; preparing briefs for counsel; drafting Court documents and attendance at Court; drafting client advices; drafting letters of instruction to experts.
Skills and experience
We would like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
at least 5 years of post-admission experience in defendant insurance law, specifically within general liability; candidates from a plaintiff background will be considered; the ability to supervise and mentor junior members of the team; clear, concise legal writing skills with strong attention to detail.
