About the Team Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services, and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Microbiology unit provides diagnostic services for a range of infectious diseases. There is an emphasis on the support of trauma and emergency services, organ transplantation (especially heart and lung), HIV related diagnostic services, and bone marrow transplantation services.
About the Role Alfred Health's Microbiology Department has a temporary full-time position for a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist. Based at The Alfred hospital, your role will be to perform microbiology testing according to documented laboratory protocols within acceptable time frames. You will be required to participate in all shift rosters, including evenings, weekends, and overnight.
Duties Perform all routine laboratory tests without supervision (after a suitable training period). Perform other duties as directed. Be familiar with the use, care, and maintenance of laboratory equipment used for routine procedures. Participate in internal and external quality control programs. Collaborate with senior staff in method development. Skills & Experience BSc or BAppSc with a major in Microbiology - evidence of assessment by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (or equivalent) is required for overseas qualifications. Experience in the performance of diagnostic Microbiology testing, including specimen set-up, culture reading, and interpretation. Good attention to detail. Good communication skills.
