About the Role As a Residential Support Worker, your role involves creating a secure and nurturing home environment for Children and Young People who have experienced childhood trauma, abuse, or neglect.
Your responsibilities include delivering personalised support and guidance, fostering the development of independent life skills, assisting with emotional regulation, and providing opportunities for re-engagement in education and community activities.
We are looking for team members with expertise in supporting individuals who may exhibit challenging behaviours such as aggression, self-harm, drug use, and absconding.
Successful candidates will have prior experience working with children and young people and possess a comprehensive understanding of childhood trauma and its impacts.
This position will be located in Bunbury and will be a permanent part time role offering 48hrs per fortnight.
The hours are as follows: Week one: Wednesday 2-7:30, Friday 2-8, Saturday 10-8 Week two: Monday 2-7:30, Wednesday 2-7:30, Thursday 2-7:30, Sunday 10-8 Life Without Barriers offers a dedicated After-Hours Service (AHS) for all Child Youth and Family programs.
AHS ensures efficient responses to after-hours events that cannot wait until the next business day, relieving our front-line staff from on-call duties and significantly improving their work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks Support the young person's interests Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves eg cooking, housework, laundry Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately Medication administration (when required) Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping Skills & Experience Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID003 or HLTAID011) & CPR (HLTAID001 or HLTAID009) Certificate/s A current Drivers Licence Additionally, experience with behavioural management approaches including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), positive behaviour support, trauma and attachment, Sanctuary or CARE residential models will be highly regarded.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, Department of Communities Check and Working with Children Check.
