As a Research Fellow, you will leverage your data science expertise to conduct cutting-edge research and contribute to the team's national recognition. You will be expected to fulfil the necessary requirements to contribute to the effective supervision of Honour and Higher Degree by Research students.Key Responsibilities:ResearchDevelop and lead an independent or team research program in health research. Collaborate with colleagues on joint research projects and funding applications. Contribute to knowledge transfer and commercialization of UQ intellectual property.Produce high-quality research outputs, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Review and apply best practice research methodologies.Work on projects involving collaboration between ODe SI (HERA initiative), the UQ Centre for Clinical Research, and the School of Mathematics and Physics. Engage in health data-driven research activities, including statistical analysis and machine learning. Manage and contribute to the development of research websites, leveraging knowledge of full-stack software development.Supervision and Researcher DevelopmentDemonstrate a track record of effectively supervising Honours and Higher Degree by Research students. Facilitate engagement opportunities for supervisees and provide feedback, coaching, and professional development.Manage staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle, in accordance with University policies and procedures. Work to promptly resolve conflicts and grievances.Contribute to the development of research programs and collaborate with colleagues on joint research projects and funding applications. Serve as chief investigator on external research funding applications.Citizenship and ServiceDemonstrate leadership through mentoring, collaboration, and active participation in unit priorities. Work effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders to build strong relationships and partnerships.Efficiently manage internal service roles and administrative processes. Provide support to other academic positions as needed.Align behaviours with UQ values. Actively pursue and develop external links and partnerships.This is a research-focused position. About You Ph D in data science or a related field.Strong track record in data science and machine learning, with a strong focus on applications within health-related fields.Experience in supervising Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.Growing reputation and track record of publications in reputable journals and conference presentations. Experience in seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.Expertise in data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, including knowledge of full-stack software development (e.g., Java Script, Python, server-side management Linux ) and statistical analyses in R, Python, Julia, or similar.Experience in liaising and collaborating with external agencies to develop cooperative research initiatives.Please note: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
