About the role: Start your career at the Florey with this great opportunity within the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and Myelin Repair lab, providing crucial support to a team of dedicated and passionate researchers.
As a research assistant within the MS and Myelin repair group, you will conduct experiments that investigate the process of tissue recovery related to multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases.
The incumbent will be expected to use established protocols as well as be able to design and establish novel techniques in the laboratory.
The position additionally involves the management of laboratory resources such as laboratory consumables.
Conduct research under limited supervision and provide laboratory-based support for experiments and related work Ensure required laboratory consumables are ordered in a timely fashion and common laboratory reagents required for the conduct of planned experiments are maintained. Maintain clear and accurate laboratory notebook and other forms of records of experimental results as appropriate. Prepare and enforce SOPs and safe working practices as required. Comply with all OHS, OGTR and laboratory policies and procedures as defined by the Institute. Provide support to team members and carry out other duties as reasonably requested Detailed information about the position and key responsibilities are available in the Position Description.
Salary:  RA 2-3 (Research Assistant) $79,724 to $84,035 per annum Full time | onsite
About you: The ideal candidate will be highly organised with the capacity to work independently as well as part of a team.
You will have a Bachelor's degree in Science, with excellent written and verbal skills and a history of impeccable scientific record keeping.
Experience in the following is essential: Strong organisation skills including the ability to work consistently and effectively Excellent record keeping and data management skills Excellent communication skills and the ability to function well in a team environment Proven ability to conduct high quality research Experience in cell culture and aseptic techniques Experience with the below is desirable, but not essential: Experience with iPSC culture Flow cytometric analysis of cells Purification of human cells from blood samples or frozen stocks Experience in small animal handling, including administration of substances via injection Ability to perform transcardial perfusion and small animal surgery DNA extraction and genotyping Immunohistochemistry The preferred applicant for this job will be asked to consent to a police check.
