Inland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia's freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.
About the opportunity
As the Project Engineer for Materials you will assist in the management of Construction Contractor work within the Inland Rail Projects scheduled timeframe and budget. Completion of allocated projects and engineering tasks safely and to the required specification.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Assist in the development and management of project schedules in alignment with Inland Rail's requirements.Monitor project progress, including updating schedules, tracking milestones, and assessing resource allocation.Work with schedulers on "what if" situations.Coordinate the procurement, transportation, and storage of critical materials.Work closely with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials.Oversee project documentation, ensuring all materials meet regulatory standards and Inland Rail's documentation protocols.Support document control processes and ensure compliance with ARTC's quality and safety requirements.Review and track project costs against budget, supporting monthly reporting to the Senior Project Engineer.Contribute to the preparation and submission of invoices in collaboration with the Accounts department.Support risk management by identifying project risks, updating the risk register, and developing mitigation strategies.Ensure compliance with Inland Rail's Work Health and Safety (WHS) policy and relevant rail safety legislation.Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.Collaborate with the Design Manager and other teams to align project objectives and address any design or material supply issues.Undertake other duties as requested as the project needs require.To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate: Essential Selection Criteria: Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification with relevant experience.Experience in construction or project management of track or civil.Knowledge of or an awareness of work health and safety principles and relevant rail safety legislation.Familiarity with quality management practices, including process improvement, audits, and corrective actions.Highly developed written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.Highly developed problem resolution and interpersonal skills.Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements.Demonstrated commercial acumen.Driver's license - Class C.Experience working within rail construction, track engineering, or asset renewal projects.Knowledge of railway systems and Australian Standards for track infrastructure.Previous experience in Material supply including any of the following Civil Precast, Turnouts and other components for Railway/civil projects.Experience with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Project Management tools like Primavera P6 or MS Project).Experience in Logistic management.What you'll be joining You will join one of the largest infrastructure programs in Australia.This project will generate thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in local investment, boosting regional economies and communities right along the alignment.Inland Rail is proud to have over 40% female representation and we would like to see these numbers grow.Inland Rail is an Agile working environment in our State-of-the-Art office embracing flexible working conditions.Inland Rail adopted a collaborative approach to the delivery of the project, leading all parties involved to work toward the same goal.
