Our client specialises in developing, constructing, and operating large-scale BESS projects that are crucial for a sustainable and resilient energy grid. They are seeking a highly skilled Project Development Manager to oversee the entire lifecycle of BESS projects across Australia.

As a Project Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing the development of BESS projects from initial site identification through to financial close and construction commencement.

Your role will involve coordinating with various internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This position requires a deep understanding of the renewable energy industry, project management expertise, and strong leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development of large-scale BESS projects, overseeing all stages from site identification to project delivery.
Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and due diligence to identify suitable locations for BESS projects.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
Coordinate with engineering, legal, finance, and regulatory teams to secure necessary approvals and permits.
Liaise with landowners, local communities, and government authorities to build and maintain positive relationships.
Prepare and manage project development budgets, ensuring cost control and optimisation.
Develop and maintain project schedules, tracking progress and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
Oversee the preparation of financial models and business cases to support project investment decisions.
Collaborate with grid connection teams to ensure seamless integration of BESS projects into the grid.
Monitor and mitigate project risks, developing contingency plans to address potential issues.
Prepare and present project updates to senior management and stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Lead project teams, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure successful project outcomes.
Stay informed of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes in the renewable energy sector.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Project Management, or a related field.
Extensive experience in project development within the renewable energy sector, particularly in BESS or similar technologies.
Strong understanding of the Australian energy market, including regulatory and grid connection requirements.
Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale energy projects, from development to construction.
Excellent project management skills, with proficiency in project management software and tools.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Knowledge of financial modelling and business case development for energy projects.
Experience in contract negotiation and management.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Eligibility to work in Australia is essential.
