About the branch and role
We have an exciting opportunity for a senior and experienced lawyer to join our Royal Commissions & Inquiries (RCI) Branch as a Principal Solicitor.
The RCI Branch provides specialist legal services and advice to the State in relation to Royal Commissions and Inquiries. Reporting to Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor, this role will provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of lawyers undertaking the following types of legal services:
Establishment of Royal Commissions (exclusive service)
Management of notices to produce including document review
Providing advice on the laws applying to Royal Commissions, public law matters and other issues as they arise
Witness preparation
Hearing preparation
Briefing and instructing counsel
State submissions
Strategic responses
Project management and reporting
Royal Commissions and inquiries general advisory
Skills and experience
Substantial experience working on large scale litigation/public law matters
Knowledge and understanding of the practice and procedures applicable to Royal Commissions and Inquiries
Significant experience providing authoritative written and oral advice which is fit for purpose
Expert capability to perform complex legal research and analysis, including statutory interpretation
Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring staff
Previous experience with document management/discovery related tasks
Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively in a team and build positive relationships with stakeholders
Superior time management skills and the ability to multi-task
