Morwell Park Primary School is located in central Latrobe Valley, 150km east of Melbourne and services the residential area of Morwell East. The school has a student enrolment of 338. Eleven percent of students had English as an additional language and 14 percent were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The school has an SFOE of .6667 with 84% of students equity funded.The school values a strong partnership between parents, students and staff, with an active Parent Association, School Council and Junior School Council. The students' best interest and development is always at the heart of decision making by all leaders and staff as we work towards our just cause: to improve the quality of life through the realisation of potential.Morwell Park Primary School provides students with a comprehensive curriculum supported by an emphasis on literacy, numeracy and active participation, driven by the belief that developing student potential will enable a purposeful and productive life.The school operates teaching units for Foundation, Year 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and Year 5 and 6 with a Unit Leader providing a level of support for the seven year level areas. The equivalent of 3 full-time teachers operate across each year level, from Foundation to Year 6. The school provides many additional programs to enhance student engagement and participation in learning such as our physical education + sports program, our creative arts program with an emphasis on visual art, music and drama. We utilise an array of technology to ensure all children have access to the latest tools including providing a variety of portable devices, iPad and robotics.Morwell Park's workforce consists of a Principal, 1.8 Assistant Principals, 1.7 Leading Teachers, 2.8 Learning Specialists (2 currently on family leave) and 21 effective full-time teachers. Throughout the year, our school utilises a number of part-time teachers including Learning Tutors with 15 central payroll Education Support (ES) staff and a number of casual support staff, including student mentors. One of our staff is of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.Morwell Park is a school that cares and caters for the whole child, including each child's academic, social, emotional, health and wellness. The school hosts a daily free breakfast program that is accessible to all students as well as the provision of fresh fruit at recess, lunch is also provided when required. The school has a comprehensive wellbeing team consisting of a social worker, part-time nurse, speech pathologist, welfare officer, along with a number of student mentors to support children to reach their potential. The school has continued its rollout of a School Wide Positive Behaviour Management System (SWPBS) and the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) and has encouraged students to grow their 'Learning Powers' to be Kind, Gritty and Focused. The Respectful Relationships program was introduced in 2022 and is implemented year wide.During 2022, Morwell Park underwent major construction works to create an Early Learning Centre providing two preschool classrooms and associated facilities. In 2023, in cooperation with Latrobe City the school commenced with two preschool groups. The Coleman Foundation supports the school; community meeting spaces and consultancy rooms were incorporated into the redevelopment and began operation in 2023. The school and the on-site early children's centre jointly partner with Our Place to strengthen connections with the community to further maximise learning and developmental opportunities for the Morwell community.The school strategic plan has three school goals:To improve student engagement and wellbeing with key improvement strategies relating to maximising attendance, embedding trauma informed practices, developing an integrated community hub to support children's capacity to engage in learning and implementing learning adjustments where required.To improve outcomes in writing and spelling with key improvement strategies focusing on 'writing revolution' and 'sounds write.'To improve outcomes in numeracy with key improvement strategies pertaining to retrieval practice and explicit instruction.
