ABOUT GEMCO Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world's manganese ore production.
Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

As the Principal External Affairs , you will be responsible for developing engagement activities to support GEMCO's closure strategy, ensuring alignment with commitments to the ALC and Traditional Owners of Groote Eylandt while delivering a positive and sustainable legacy for the community.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to: Lead and coordinate the social aspects of GEMCO's closure in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders Develop and implement social research and stakeholder engagement plans to support the closure process Coordinate activities relating to the Closure Steering Committee, including technical studies and economic development projects Support external Closure Working Groups and contribute to the development of closure-related plans and community initiatives ABOUT YOU You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: Experience in Mining or Environment roles preferred Experience working with regional or remote Indigenous communities is preferred Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical content for diverse audiences Expertise in complex stakeholder engagement Qualifications for this position are: Tertiary qualification in Science, Environment, Engineering, Communications, or related field, or extensive relevant work experience South32 is committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we operate.
