We are currently seeking a Principal Cloud Operations Specialist on an initial contract until the end of June 2025, potentially beyond.
This role will be working in a leading State Government Department and be responsible for optimising and maturing their cloud services and infrastructure operations.
About the Role Support development teams and new projects through the planning, design and implementation of cloud infrastructure and platform solutions as required Enhance systems operations, with a focus on automation and cost optimization Oversee the selection and implementation of orchestration tooling for the purpose of cloud operations optimization Research and oversee implementation of DevOps practices, with a focus on reducing operational overheads attributed to projects and application development requiring infrastructure resources Provide technical advice and support regarding the use of Microsoft cloud services and platforms Research and monitor Microsoft 365 / Azure and AWS roadmaps for the implementation of new cloud capabilities and evolution of existing services Maintain cloud platform effectiveness, specifically Microsoft 365 and Azure, through the identification and recommendation of improvements Participate in and / or lead the development and continuous improvement of cloud infrastructure Disaster Recovery capabilities Consult with all levels of business to maximise return from available Microsoft technology solutions Deliver business facing support services, enabling the effective use and support of core business applications built on cloud services Develop and maintain effective technical documentation for cloud solutions and platforms implemented across the Department.
Participate in the development of procedures designed to ensure the Business is receiving maximum return from investments in technology and that service delivery is in line with agreed SLAs Maintain effective relationships with technology vendors and suppliers to ensure third party SLAs are achieved Other duties as directed to support delivery of departmental priorities.
About you Ideally we are seeking someone with: A background in the design and development of cloud infrastructure and platforms, including significant experience operating in a technical lead capacity, ideally in a Microsoft environment Experience in the design and implementation of enterprise systems using structured architectural and software development methodologies and industry proven patterns and practices Experience in acting as a technical leader, managing small projects and proof-of-concept exercises to validate technology and methods, while influencing stakeholders and driving business innovation Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to successfully operate within a highly regulated environment with experience in the interpretation and application of legislation, policies, and procedures Solid understanding of the various software development lifecycle methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Hybrid) with a focus on quality assurance activities and efficient development processes Highly developed technical documentation skills Good knowledge of current and emerging technologies and their potential application, in addition to being open-minded and technically creative For further information and for a confidential discussion, please contact Matthew Cameron on ****** or on 0450 207 555 directly.
