Child Safety, Seniors and Disabilities Child Protection Practice; Office of the Chief Practitioner; Child and Family Services; BrisbaneThe Practice Leader (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) provides leadership and expertise to drive effective and ongoing improvement in our work with First Nations children and families, and to contribute to strengthening practice and outcomes for children, young people, their families and communities receiving child protection intervention.The Practice Leader provides statewide consultation, mentoring, expert advice and capability development about complex child protection matters to departmental staff and key partners working with children and families.The role operates as part of a statewide network of Practice Leaders and aims to embed Active Efforts and culturally responsive practice.Only Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people may apply for this position.The role helps ensure that advice and services are provided in a culturally informed manner to ensure positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.The Practice Leader (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) key responsibilities are:Provide strategic advice and mentoring to key departmental staff, to deliver a program of work for improving the quality of the casework to address the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in the child protection system.Enhance the department's standards and initiatives relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, including the application of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle and effective family group decision making processes.Strengthen the relationships between departmental staff and funded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, to improve the quality of the decisions and services delivered for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.Build constructive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies and communities with a focus on developing a shared responsibility and ownership for the protection of children and young people.Analyse performance data to identify trends and issues, consider systemic issues and the relationship between multiple performance measures in terms of the impact on service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.Provide evidence-based advice on the delivery of effective and culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and carers.Lead the development of cultural capability across the region and implement quality assurance mechanisms that support monitoring and continuous improvement of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families and communities, with a focus to Active Efforts and the application of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.Manage multiple projects including implementation as part of the ongoing reform and renewal agenda and ensure embedding of the Strengthening Families Protecting Children Framework for Practice.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/590985/24Closing Date: Friday, 27 September 2024Further informationWe are committed to building inclusive cultures in the Queensland public sector that respect and promote human rights and diversity.Please ensure you download all attachments and follow the instructions on how to apply.
