Salary Package: Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A step 6-8) from $95,706 to $102,570 per annum, plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

Appointment Type: Full-time, Fixed term for 2 years

Macquarie University (North Ryde) location

A suitably qualified postdoctoral researcher is sought for a project on self-consistent analysis of black hole horizons and their observational signatures. The researcher will work at the Department of Physics and Astronomy/ the Research Centre for Astronomy, Astrophysics and Astrophotonics in close collaboration with A/Prof. Daniel Terno and Prof. Robert Mann (at the University of Waterloo) and a team of HDR students.

The research will focus on quantum aspects of physical black holes, collapse models that may lead to black hole formation and characteristics of ultra-compact objects, such as quasi-normal modes. The researcher will develop the modelling codes and will have primary responsibility for at least one project in this program. The researcher will contribute to other theoretical components of the project, including the analysis of results, development of new ideas, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. The researcher will be also involved in assisting with supervision of graduate students.

A PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, or Mathematical Physics

Working knowledge of general relativity and at least one of the following: black hole physics, alternative theories of gravity, relativistic quantum information

A strong record of computer programming.

Experience in numerical relativity and/or numerical simulation of quantum field-detector interactions

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic life and, administrative tasks

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of an effective team.

Ability to secure research grant funding, relative to experience.

Experience in successful research supervision.

Ability to develop independent external collaborative partnerships
