About the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)
The RFDS is a national, charitable, health organisation delivering primary healthcare and 24-hour emergency services for those that live in rural and remote Australia.
Long known as one of the largest aeromedical organisations in the world, the RFDS delivers health care where mainstream health services are not available, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology and a broad-reaching ground-service fleet.
The RFDS Federation Office is responsible for maintaining relations with the Commonwealth Government and overseeing commonwealth funding and National brand, research and advocacy on behalf of the RFDS Federation.
About the RoleThis position is responsible for driving and coordinating the policy, government relations and advocacy agenda across the RFDS federation.
This position will prepare, coordinate and oversee engagement activities in political, parliamentary, public affairs and policy processes that influence appropriate responses to RFDS client outcomes and rural and remote health service access challenges, including retaining and attracting funding for the RFDS.
This particularly includes managing the production, release and reach of RFDS Best for the Bush publications and policy papers.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage the production, release and reach of the Best for the Bush reports series and research-based policy papers.Develop an enhanced national government relations strategy, processes and relationships to ensure impactful participation in public affairs and advocacy activities for the benefit of RFDS service delivery and patient outcomes.Build and extend networks, ensuring that funders and stakeholders are aware of the highest priority needs, populations and locations, and are increasingly calling on RFDS capability and expertise.Drawing on (internal and external) research, evidence and other publications to identify opportunities and initiate advocacy strategies and activities, aligned with identified priorities.Contribute to, and in some cases lead, RFDS-wide projects of strategic importance with the objective of improving health service delivery throughout the organisation.Experience, Knowledge and SkillsRequiredRelevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in health policy, public policy and/or research.Highly developed research, analytical and problem solving capabilities – including the ability to assess and critically evaluate the validity of information and research and prepare policy briefs and background analysis based on consultations, published data and research.Excellent written and oral communication skills with the demonstrated ability to write reports, project proposals, submissions, meeting papers and ability to write concisely about complex policy issues.Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and relationships management including the ability to plan, identify and liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to inform policy development.Demonstrated high level computer literacy for word processing, spreadsheets and internet-based research.DesirableExperience and understanding of the processes of government (at a national level), including political and legislative processes [or ability to rapidly acquire].Knowledge of the Australian health system, current relevant policies, and networks in the health sector.Experience in inter-government relations.Experience in research development, planning or delivery of rural and remote health services.Work Requirements & BenefitsSalary negotiable upon work experience.To be located in Canberra (office located in Barton) or Sydney (office located on Pitt Street, Sydney CBD).Full time or part time ongoing position with flexibility to work in a hybrid environment.Free staff parking (Canberra Office only).Not-For-Profit tax benefits & salary packaging.On the job coaching, training and support.Christmas leave.How to ApplyTo Apply: Please send your Resume and 1-page Cover Letter addressing the key responsibilities and your suitability towards the experience, knowledge and skills requirements for the role to: ******.
