Koala Conservation Australia (KCA) is one of the leading authorities in koala care, education, conservation and research.
It is a not-for-profit charity and is internationally recognised for its wild koala conservation work. The organisation operates the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, Wild Breeding Guulabaa and two browse plantations that grow koala food trees.
KCA has a range of koala conservation programs that reflect our wider mission to lead the world in the care and conservation of wild koalas, increase knowledge and understanding of the species and work collaboratively to ensure their survival into the future.
The plantation officer role at KCA is a key role in managing the Moripo plantation, including developing tree management and harvesting schedules.
This role coordinates plantation activities for the optimal care of trees for sustainable browse production which is vital to the care of wild koalas.
In this role, you will also support maintenance at the Wild Koala Breeding Facility, including the upkeep of grounds, infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment, as well as ensuring overall facility presentation.
Responsibilities: Coordinate plantation activities and schedules The care of trees for sustainable browse production The maintenance, pruning, and harvesting of browse Grafting techniques Training of volunteers in tree species and leaf identification Ability to perform general maintenance work Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in areas such as Forest Operations, Parks and Gardens, Horticulture or Arboriculture preferred. Previous horticulture or land and conservation management skills Strong knowledge of tree species, leaf identification and grafting techniques Ability to identify and harvest koala browse Experience in managing and instructing workers and teams Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines Applications in writing with a resume (2 page Max) and cover letter by 26 / 11 / 2024 and submitted via seek.com.
